KaluusuDiag is a desktop application used to diagnose East Coast Fever in cattle particularly cows. The system requires a user to enter images of a blood smear sample. The blood smear sample is obtained by the veterinary doctor or farmer extracting blood from a suspected infected cow then stained on a glass slide and examined under the microscope.
An image is taken, saved on the computer, and then uploaded into the system interface. The image will then be compared with the classifier previously generated by training images annotated using MATLAB, the annotated files are saved as XML files. The disease is identified when there is a bluish spot on the red blood cell. The system outputs both images and text as result.
